SLA 3D Printing

What is SLA 3D printing?

SLA 3D printing, or Stereolithography 3D printing, is a type of additive manufacturing technology used to create three-dimensional objects. It's one of the earliest and most widely used 3D printing processes. Here's how it works:

Resin

The heart of SLA 3D printing is a liquid resin, typically a photopolymer, that hardens upon exposure to specific light wavelengths. This resin is specially formulated to react and solidify under a light source, allowing for high-detail and complex object creation.

Layer-by-Layer Process

SLA printing builds objects layer by layer. A laser or other light source selectively cures the liquid resin, hardening it where the object is to be formed. After each layer is cured, the build platform shifts, and a new layer of resin is applied, continuing the process until the object is fully formed.

Photopolymerization

This is the chemical process at the core of SLA printing. When the resin is exposed to a certain wavelength of light, it undergoes a reaction that causes the molecules to link together, transforming from a liquid into a solid state. This precise and controlled reaction allows for the creation of highly detailed and complex structures.

Washing and Curing

After printing, the objects are not yet fully solid. They are submerged in a solvent bath to wash away any uncured resin. Following this, they undergo a curing process, often involving UV light, to further harden and stabilize the material, ensuring durability and stability of the final product.
